About Us

Girls Who Film is a gender-inclusive club for student filmmakers at Columbia University. We were founded in 2023 by Barnard first-years who wanted to create a creative community for students with identities traditionally underrepresented in media and excluded from the film industry. Through collaborative short film projects, film production and screenwriting workshops, movie nights, and discussions about visual media, we strive to expand the accessibility of filmmaking and diversify modern storytelling.

We hold weekly meetings and always have at least one ongoing film production in process, with our club members each fulfilling various roles that align with their interests and discovering new ones along the way. We are directors, screenwriters, actors, costume designers, makeup artists, musicians, and more. No experience or financial contributions are required to join our low-pressure female-centered productions.  Film major or not, there is space for you here!
